Widespread blackouts in Ukraine following'massive' Russian missile strikes


 According to Ukraine, Russia has launched more than 50 missiles targeting critical infrastructure across Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, causing power and water outages.


After the massive attack on Monday morning, one Kyiv resident told the BBC that his district was without power.


Energy facilities in the north-eastern city of Kharkiv were targeted.


The strikes follow Russia's accusation that Ukraine was responsible for a drone attack on its Black Sea Fleet in annexed Crimea.


According to Kyiv Mayor Vitlaiy Klitschko, 80% of city residents are without water after an energy facility near the capital was damaged. He also stated that engineers were being dispatched immediately to restore power to approximately 350,000 apartments in the megacity.


According to city officials, "no hits were recorded" in Kyiv.

Missile strikes were also reported in central Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia in the south-east, and Lviv in western Ukraine on Monday morning.


The Dnipro hydroelectric power plant in the Zaporizhzhia region was also reportedly targeted.
