Wizkid was one of the first nominees for Favorite Afrobeats Artist at the American Music Awards in 2022. He was nominated alongside Burna Boy, CKay, Tems, and Fireboy, all of whom had significant success in the United States during the previous year.

Wizkid also took home the Favorite R&B Award for his song "Essence," which featured Tems and Justin Bieber, beating out competition from other heavyweights.
Tems also took home two awards: Favorite R&B for 'Essence' and Favorite Hip Hop for her work on Future's 'Wait For U.'
