The family reacts to APC's use of Fela's song.

 


The late Fela Anikulapo-family Kuti's has denied endorsing any presidential candidate in the 2023 elections or approving the use of his song for political advertising.


This comes just days after the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) used Fela's well-known song "Eko Ile" in one of its campaign activities for the 2023 presidential election.

The rumor that the Kuti family would support the APC in the 2023 general elections sparked outrage among Nigerians on social media.


In a statement posted on his Instagram page on Monday, Femi Kuti said the Kuti family did not approve of the APC's action, adding that they had always been apolitical.

"Disclaimer and notice of use without consent," he writes in his post. This disclaimer is issued by the administrators of Fela Anikulapo-estate. Kuti's


"We would like to clarify that the estate's permission was not sought for the use of Fela's music, Eko Ile, in the current All Progressives Congress social media campaign."

"We do not use Fela's music in any political campaign, domestic or international, and prefer to remain neutral."


"While we wish all candidates the best, we demand that the Federal Republic of Nigeria's laws be followed and intellectual property rights be respected." "I signed the Fela Anikulapo-Kuti estate," he added.
